Kirimoto Family in Wajima, Ishikawa prefecture of Japan, has been engaged in the lacquerware making for over 200 years since the late Edo Period. At the beginning of Showa era, the family started to specialize in carving wood materials of lacquerware.
Traditional lacquerware is coated with treated sap extracted from lacquer trees that dries to a very hard and smooth surface layer that is durable, waterproof and looks attractive.
The lacquer sheath can withstand acid, alkali, alcohol and high temperature.
