Base in Kyoto, Hirotomo DOI is a Japanese lacquer artist known for his unique approach to coffee and tea ceremonies, as well as his metal-core lacquerware. He is also known for his coffee ceremony, a pre-planned arrangement that ensures optimal conditions for brewing and serving coffee.
Hirotomo DOI graduated from the Wajima Lacquerware Research Institute in Ishikawa Prefecture and later moved his studio to Kyoto. In his original concept of "Kohi Kaiseki" (Coffee Kaiseki), he demonstrates the entire process of brewing coffee, from grinding self-roasted coffee beans to serving, where he uses only his own works, including pots and cups.
Drip Pot with Handle: Unique Design and Functionality
The spout of the drip pot is crafted from a 5.5mm stainless steel pipe, bent using a lever principle in a custom mold. The stainless steel is coated with lacquer and layered with washi paper, enhancing the durability and aesthetic of the pot.
Handle and Grip
The handle is made from a single piece of keyaki wood, fastened to the pot with bamboo pins and lacquer. It is then wrapped with layers of washi paper, ensuring a firm grip and a unique design.
